Hero Maestro Edge: Overview

Maestro

In 2011, Hero announced the dissolution of their joint venture with the automobile giant, Honda. That only meant no longer we would see any new Hero Honda motorcycles in the country. Soon enough, our televisions – did we had YouTube back then? – were flooded with advertisements claiming Hero Honda is, now, Hero MotoCorp.

That marked the beginning of a new era for the Indian two-wheeler industry. For years, Hero reigned supreme in the commuter bike segment, while Honda strengthened their position in the ever-growing automatic scooter segment with the Activa.

So, naturally, it was inevitable for the country’s leading two-wheeler manufacturer to foray in this segment. In came the Maestro. With its sharp lines and muscular design, the Maestro gained traction amongst the millennials. What we have today is a successor to the abovementioned, the Maestro Edge. So, here’s a lowdown to what the new Maestro Edge brings to the table. Read on.

Engine

At the heart of the Hero Maestro Edge is a BS-IV compliant 110cc single-cylinder engine that’s capable of churning out 8.31bhp and 8.3Nm of torque. The engine is mated to a CVT automatic gearbox. Moreover, it is carburettor-fed and makes do with air cooling. Thumb the starter, and the engine comes to life in a refined manner. The throttle response, even in the low-end, is crisp and beefy, making this scooter easy to ride in the city. Cruising in the 60-70km/h too felt extremely comfortable for the Edge, although Hero claims the scooter maxes out at 85km/h.

Specifications

Without a doubt, the Maestro Edge is a muscular and stylish scooter that’s sure to lure the young buyers. The design is well balanced and there are some modern touches to keep in line with the trends. Talking about numbers though, the scooter has a wheelbase of 1,261mm, ground clearance of 155mm, and a seat height of 775mm. Moreover, it has a length of 1,841mm, width of 695mm, and height of 1,190mm. The kerb weight stands at 110kg.

Fuel tank capacity

For an automatic scooter, the fuel tank capacity of 5.5-litres seems just about adequate. The fuel efficiency, on the other hand, is an ARAI-claimed 51km/l.

Mechanical parts

The cycle parts setup on the Maestro Edge results in an extremely well ride quality without any bone-jarring experience for the rider. Just as it should be on a scooter, the handling is light and effortless, making it easy to aim the steering in and out of traffic. The comfortable ride quality is achieved with the help of telescopic forks suspension at the front and a monoshock suspension at the rear. The scooter sits on a high rigidity under bone type frame chassis. The front wheel is shod with 90/100-12 tyre and the rear, 90/100-10. 130mm drums for braking on both ends.

Features

Keeping in line with the mandatory safety norms, the Maestro Edge comes with CBS as standard. The instrument cluster here is a part-digital unit, with an analogue speedometer and a small digital display for other essential information. Moreover, the headlamp is a halogen-powered unit while the taillamp is an LED.

Colours

You can grab the Maestro Edge in nine different colours: Panther Black, Candy Blazing Red, Pearl Silver White, Shooting Night Star, Techno Blue, Matte Blue, Matte Vernier Grey, Sporty Matte Grey & Red, and Active Matte Grey & Blue.
